OVERLAND RESPONSIBLY
RESPECT THE PLACE & PROTECT THE EXPERIENCE
At Colorado Overlander, we’re passionate about sharing the beauty of the Colorado and Western United States landscapes with you through overland exploration. But with great adventure comes great responsibility. We’re committed to sustainable travel and minimizing our impact on the wild places we explore. That’s why we encourage all our renters to embrace the principles of Leave No Trace (LNT) and Tread Lightly. Learn more about both of these important principles with the online training resources provided below.
UNDERSTANDING LEAVE NO TRACE
Leave No Trace is a fundamental set of principles aimed at minimizing human impact on the environment while enjoying outdoor activities. It emphasizes the importance of respecting and preserving natural environments for the enjoyment of present and future generations. The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics outlines seven key principles as guidelines for outdoor enthusiasts:
Preparation and Planning
Thorough planning ensures a safer and more sustainable outdoor experience while reducing harm to the environment.
Responsible Travel and Camping
Stay on designated trails and campsites to prevent damage to delicate ecosystems.
Proper Waste Disposal
Pack out all trash and waste materials, leaving no trace of human presence behind.
Preservation of Natural Features
Respect the integrity of natural landscapes by refraining from disturbing rocks, plants, and other natural elements.
Considerate Campfire Practices
Adhere to local regulations regarding fires, utilizing designated fire rings when available. Otherwise, opt for alternative cooking methods to minimize environmental impact.
Respect for Wildlife
Observe animals from a distance, refraining from feeding or approaching them to avoid disrupting their natural behaviors.
Courtesy to Fellow Outdoor Enthusiasts
Maintain a low impact by minimizing noise levels, yielding to others on trails, and fostering a positive outdoor experience for all.
